Facts about Kiribati
Kiribati is known for its lagoons and wonderful white sand beaches that offer tourists a remote setting for fishing, diving, yachting, and bird-watching. This makes Kiribati a prime holiday destination. Tourists visit the Phoenix Islands which is in South Tarawa. The island contains the world’s largest marine protected areas and an ecosystem which is home to a host of aquatic and bird species.
Kiribati is ranked 197th in the world in terms of tourism. In 2017, a total of 5,800 tourists visited the country which was a significant rise in the number of tourists who visited the country in 2016. The tourism industry was responsible for generating up to $3.4 million in revenue which corresponds to 1.8 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
All visitors are not allowed to enter Kiribati with more than 5000 Australian Dollars. Importation of firearms, ammunition, explosives, counterfeit money, knives and pornography is strictly prohibited.
All nationals of European member states excluding Ireland and the United Kingdom may enter Kiribati visa-free for 90 days within a 180-day period.
